'I will arrive tomorrow' is the title of a 40-minute episodic film about the love and jealousy, misunderstandings and conflicts, friendships and intrigues that arise during a school exchange. The film was made over nine months by 43 young people from Bristol, Poznan and Hannover, guided and assisted by film makers and media educationalists. The young people were involved at every stage of the production, from devising the screenplay, acting, camera work and design through to the final edit.
Bristol The project began with an international workshop in Bristol in October 2002 to get acquainted and gather the first experiences of cooperative film-making in international groups. The participants produced six short films. Work continued back in their home cities, concentrating on screenplays for the three locally-set threads of the plot and filming the scenes that arose. Ideas for the screenplay of the fourth part, which was to bring together the characters from the preceding scenes, took shape with representatives of the young people and the film makers at a preparatory meeting for the second international workshop in Hannover. At the beginning of this workshop in April 2003 the participants had the first chance to view the results of their work together, and the workshop programme also included final decisions on the screenplay for the fourth part and filming.
Hannover In June 2003 the film makers and two young people from each city met up again to try out various possible edited versions and decide on the work that remained to be done (subtitles, music, sound). The premieres in Bristol and Hannover are in October 2003. In Poznan the film will be shown for the first time in early November as part of the children's arts biennial, to which all participants are invited, to round off the project with a concluding international workshop. |
